Camping Recipe

Easy Homemade BBQ

  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 1-1/2 pounds pork tenderloin, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 3 medium green peppers, chopped
  • 2 large onions, chopped

For serving:

  • 12 sandwich buns
  • Your preferred sandwich toppings (onions, pickles, cole slaw, etc.)

Kitchen tools needed:

  • Slow cooker (5+ qts)
  • Slow cooker liner
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Wooden spoon

  • Place the liner in the slow cooker. Once you’ve used a slow cooker liner, you’ll never go back to cleaning up the old way. This makes clean up a snap!
  • Prep all ingredients – cube meat, chop and dice onions and peppers.
  • Add all ingredients to slow cooker and stir very well to thoroughly combine.
  • Put the lid on, turn to low heat, and walk away for 6 hours.
  • When ready to serve, shred the meat with two forks. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.

One way I like to make this recipe is to prep and combine all ingredients ahead of time in a gallon-size food storage bag. On the day I plan to make it, I simply transfer the contents of the bag to the slow cooker and add an hour or so to the overall cooking time. It’s an easy and efficient way to make this easy camping recipe even easier and dirty up fewer dishes on the day you’re making this. And there’s really nothing nicer than having dinner in the slow cooker with no dishes to clean up by the time you’re cleaning up breakfast!
