What You Need to Know before Renting Your First RV

Are you one of the many people interested in checking out the exciting world of RV renting due to the recent changes in travel? We completely understand. We’ve seen a lot of people join the RV community lately, so we figured we would answer a few of the commonly asked questions about renting an RV.

RV Driving is a Little Different than Normal Car or Pickup Truck Driving

Just because you’ve seen someone drive an RV doesn’t exactly mean you’re road ready – but don’t be scared. Getting the hang of it doesn’t take much, but you’ll definitely want to take a test drive before renting and make sure you feel comfortable behind the wheel. Most importantly, be aware of your surroundings and the type of vehicle you’re driving. If you’re in a giant motorhome, then tight turns just aren’t going to be for you; prepare for it, practice driving around a bit before you actually hit the open road and you should be just fine.

Consider the Size of Your Group

Not everyone is cut out for that road life, so you’ll want to make sure you have a firm headcount of travelers before you commit to your RV rental. Account for the total number of people, any pets you’ll have with you, and the size of the humans and dogs. If you want people to be as comfortable as possible, then plan on renting a slightly larger RV.

Determine the Destination and Activities

Planning your activities ahead of time enables you to visualize what you’ll be packing and account for additional space. So, if you and all your buddies want to go big and bring sets of golf clubs, fishing gear, and an ATV – you’ll want to know ahead of time so you can rent the right RV for your trip.

Account for Fuel Costs

Fuel efficiency varies from RV to RV, but it’s undoubtedly lower than typical cars or trucks. So – don’t be alarmed if your gas mileage isn’t great – but you will need to account for the funds to make sure you and your travelers have a safe trip and arrive on time.
